The “Just Enough To Get By” Workers & Comparing Hands-on Employees With Having Manners
In my opinion, employees from a multitude of industries are accustomed to doing just enough work to get by. Every day is systematic and repetitious, but the basic standards are met, resulting in no complaints from upper management. The common workplace phrases “Going Above & Beyond” & “Exceeding Expectations” are unheard of.
On the other hand, residential on-site management offices are prime locations to film a reality show. Property Managers need to wear many hats throughout the day and it’s vital they “all fit.” I’m always cross-training team members to make sure they’re prepared for questions or situations that come their way.
Since a young age, I’ve always been one to get involved with a project instead of watching from the outside. In other words, I just wanted to help. People that are truly “hands-on” are never asked for help by others because they already are helping. It’s something that comes naturally to some people and I find it to be very similar to having manners. I’d be very curious to see the outcome of a test that compared being hands-on and having manners. I guarantee you can’t have one without the other.
When asked by others on what separates me from other managers, this is the answer given.
