“My very first job was at 12, delivering on average, 50 newspapers every morning in the neighborhood. Although paper route only took an hour to complete, there was much more required, which included: keep an ongoing list of customers, creating hand-written invoices, and physically going door-to-door once a week to collect on that invoice. In the end, I learned valuable skills and gained a strong work ethic at 12, which I still use to this very day.“

Great Companies I've Worked With
Chartre Oaks Apartments was where I was first introduced to property management. I was 20 and a sophomore at Florida State University, looking for a part-time job. The ad in the newspaper said, “Leasing Consultant needed at student housing community with pay of $7/hour.” I didn’t even know what a leasing consultant was, but I’d take any job that didn’t involve fast food at that point.
I spent the remainder of college working as the leasing consultant at Chartre Oaks Apartments, knowing it was only temporary. Towards the end of senior year is when I realized that there is a “property management industry” which offers plenty of room for growth.
I spent the remainder of college working as the part-time leasing consultant at Chartre Oaks Apartments. Towards the end of my senior year, I realized a “property management industry” exists in the “real world” which offers plenty of room for growth. Considering I loved my leasing job, this would be an excellent opportunity.
All my friends were getting jobs in Atlanta, which was the closest “big” city near Tallahassee. I did my research and learned that Lincoln Property Company would be a perfect fit for me. Moving forward, LPC hired me to lease at a luxury mid-rise community in Buckhead, the affluent uptown district of Atlanta.
LPC provided an excellent training program, which taught industry fundamentals, focusing strongly on phone/on-site closing, exceeding customer expectations and Fair Housing laws.
I loved working for LPC and couldn’t have asked for a better team, but there was a growth opportunity available to me, that couldn’t be passed on.
In 2011, I decided it was time to become a Property Manager. Hudson Park was a small management firm and it was evident the manager was not leaving anytime soon. Therefore, I started looking for opportunities and found one in Philadelphia, PA. The 979-unit community was Park Towne Place and managed by AIMCO.
In summer of 2012, I received an email from a prior manager at my time with Lincoln Property Company. She was now a Regional Manager still working in the Atlanta market. The email mentioned the construction of a brand new community in Northampton, PA, which LPC was hired to manage. A large portion of the role required working one-on-one with construction manager along with building owners. I knew this would be an excellent learning experience which doesn’t come around so often. However, there were a couple of drawbacks: 1. Park Towne Place with AIMCO was running smooth and we had a solid team in place 2. Northampton, PA was a rural town with cornfields in every direction. It was a tough decision, but I applied for the role and got it.
